7 Certifications to Entice Every Agile Practitioner

Certification can be a great way to develop new skills. Alternatively, it can be a great way to prove you are capable with the skills you already have too. In any case, certifications are great for a career. In an article for CIO.com, Sharon Florentine touches upon seven different certifications that could be of interest to agile practitioners:

  • PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner): The Project Management Institute and its various credentials are often seen as the gold standard in certification, and their offerings are not limited to waterfall methodology. PMI-ACP covers scrum, kanban, and lean, among other things.
  • APMG International: This organization offers various certifications, and its goal “is to benchmark the ability of project managers to deliver agile projects in organizations that require standards, rigor, and visibility around the agile framework.”
  • Strategyex Certificate (Associate or Master’s) in Agile: TwentyEight Strategy Execution offers course programs in collaboration with George Washington University.
  • International Consortium for Agile (ICAgile): They provide certifications (at three levels) for all the popular implementations of agile, including scrum, kanban, and XP.
  • Agile Certification Institute (ACI): They especially provide certification on areas of enterprise agile adoption.
  • Scaled Agile Academy: They are of course the keepers of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), which scales agile practices to apply throughout the software organization.
  • Scrum Alliance: If you want to learn the ins and outs of scrum, this is where you go. They offer six different certifications.
