Your company has thought of implementing Agile, but do the Agile leaders have the needed mindset? Are they still reprioritizing items in the middle of the sprint? Agile Leaders and Active Listening

While there are bosses with a superiority complex, the rest are yet to grasp Agile’s actual meaning. Here are the reasons behind their not coming up to speed:

  • Agile leaders think that change is necessary only for the team. Organizations have trained people to fill up the Scrum Master and Product Owner roles but have not supplied them with the culture. Unlike traditional methods, agile allows us to discover the key bottlenecks beforehand. That is something the managers are not prepared to handle.
  • Teammates cannot speak up, and Scrum Masters do not have the authority to convey team concerns to upper management. Even if the issue is acknowledged, top executives delay taking action.

We all know what happens when Agile leaders do not listen to team concerns—dip in team morale and productivity. That is followed by employee attrition. According to a Google survey, psychological safety enables teams to take risks rather than be punished for failures.

Be Flexible

Instead of telling someone outright that the request is not feasible, explain why and give an alternative solution. Though you disagree with how your peer achieves a goal, settle with the fact that you both want the same thing. Instead of giving a rushed decision, take time to provide a solution.

Work on the Change Daily

You cannot change the mindset of Agile leaders overnight. So, work towards changing their outlook every day. They might adapt to the small changes.

Give Reason to Listen

Build your credibility before you can convey your challenges. When agile leaders trust you, they might consider your plea for a change.
